Worshipping God Together
Worshipping God Together
When we meet each week, our worship format is simple because God's word speaks plainly about how to worship Him. We trust that this is what He wants, so we focus on giving Him our best in these areas. Worship keeps us centered on our purpose and helps us grow to be more like Jesus each day. Every service, we dedicate ourselves to the following activities:
- Bible Teaching. At the Downtown church, we use the Bible as our only guide for our faith and practices. Within it, we find God’s plan for how to live, how to worship, and how to love our fellow man. In fact we know that God, “has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3).
- Praying. Prayer is personal and powerful. We don't have to give long, drawn out or showy prayers - God knows what we need before we even ask. We pray because we have faith that He will provide what is best for us, even if we don't receive our desired answer. (Matthew 7:7-12)
- Singing. God doesn't expect us to have professional-level singing ability - He just wants us to express ourselves in song. The New Testament example is to sing only with the instrument of our voices, and that's exactly what we do! (Hebrews 13:25; Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16)
- Communion (every Sunday). God gave His only son for a flawed people. Christ was the perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins and we want to honor Him every Sunday to show Him our love and dedication. (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
- Giving (every Sunday). No matter how much we may have, we believe God has blessed us with more than we deserve. We give - monetarily and otherwise - with thanksgiving and humility in our hearts because that's how Christ lived. (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)
Worship should be a life-changing experience and it is something we are constantly focused on at the Downtown church. Our Lord deserves our best, so we spend time improving our abilities when it comes to worship. We have regular singing practices, many of our speakers and teachers have years of experience, and we even have classes dedicated to prayer. The goal for our worship leaders is to help the church focus on God and give Him all of the glory. If you need encouragement and need to re-focus yourself, we would love to have you join us.
